CNPI is the nation's only grassroots news bureau where low-income workers and immigrants are trained to be professional radio reporters.
CNPI reporters tell the stories of their communities and issues that are important to their lives. Their work has aired locally, nationally and internationally, and is also used as movement-building tools to advance social change campaigns.
We partner with community based organizing groups to train their members and staff in Radio Journalism 101. Our reporters are street vendors, domestic workers, refugees and construction workers.

Last month, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) raised subway and bus
fares to confront a growing deficit.
But in addition to facing a budget crunch, the MTA faces a deteriorating overall transit system, which requires regular track constructions especially on weekends. One of the lines undergoing track work is the L train in Brooklyn. With ongoing constructions, commuters are forced to use the shuttle bus to get to their destination. But for many riders, using a shuttle bus can be quite a challenge. Reporter and subway rider Jessica Aguirre has more.

Millions of women live in fear of an abusive spouse, boyfriend or
acquaintance. To address this crucial problem, the Obama administration
recently appointed
Lynn Rosenthal as the new advisor to the President
on Domestic Violence issues. Meanwhile, here in NYC, victims of
domestic violence, their supporters, and advocates attended a City
Council hearing about the housing crisis that many survivors of
domestic violence are facing. CNPI reporter, Florence Mafomemeh brings
us this report. This piece was initially aired on WBAI 99.5FM.
