Letters to Obama

Attention: open in a new window. PrintE-mail

Seizing the moment, Vanguard Radio Rootz students send audio letters to Barack Obama.

Earlier in the school year, Vanguard High School in Manhattan poured their hearts out to Linda Darling-Hammond who was at the time an adviser to President Obama's transition team. Vanguard High School students were grieving the death of one of their fellow students who was murdered. To their surprise, President Obama wrote a compassionate and inspiring letter back to them.

The 9th grade students in our Radio Rootz class decided to continue the dialog with our new president. They wrote and then recorded audio letters to President Obama. Listen as they congratulate him, tell him what they hope he will do, and challenge him to keep his promises. Tune in for the bonus track that was composed by two of the students.
